Kicking the Can to the Curb
After 18 months of high calorie (28 cal/oz) formula, we finally got the ok from our pediatrician to switch Vivian to whole milk. Hooray!
I have a lot I could say about having to feed my sweet baby this (corn syrup containing, ingredient list a mile long) powder from a can, but it boils down to this: formula is what my baby needed to bulk up, get strong and keep gaining weight. My body couldn't give Viv what she needed - pumping for two months yielded pathetic, piddly puddles of my own milk, an ounce or two at a time.
It was one of my first tangible, concrete lessons in truly letting go - letting go of what I thought would be and accepting and finding the good in what was.
Cheers! (Imagine Vivian raising a bottle of organic whole milk to clink clink with you.)

Cheers to Vivian and Yay to mommy who no longer has to mix the formula!
Kim
woohoo! i, too, experienced the no fun pump for ages and get maybe an ounce of milk. i felt like such a failure. meanwhile i'd have friends pump out 10 ounces at a time. a good lesson for me in letting go my expectations AND not comparing myself and my journey to others'.
Yay Vivian! Brady thinks whole milk tastes so much better so enjoy this new world! And you can pocket the money you will save buying the milk rather than the expensive formula. We were so excited when we got the ok too!
That is wonderful!! Eva went from formula to pediasure to milk and that took 3 years so great job Vivian for packing on the pounds and doing so well.
Hugs,
Crystal and Eva
Yay Miss Vivian! I can't wait to hear how you like it!
I just love that picture too!! Too cute!!
Yay! That's great news. To give Micah the extra calories he needs we have to add Elecare to his milk. It's an amino acid-based "medical food" with corn syrup as the first ingredient.
Ick -- the smell of it makes me gag and I hate adding it to his milk, but like you said about Vivian, it's necessary to give him the calories and bulk that he needs.
Thanks for sharing the lesson you learned... it's one I need to be reminded of once in a while.
Cheers, Vivian! Cheers, Hannah!
To letting go and trusting what we are doing is right! To kicking that can to the curb!
To friendship!
